Art Department

  • As Art educators, our main goal is to have all students be successful.  Every student should have the opportunity to shine in some way.

We begin in elementary school focusing on the usage of elements and principles of art, artist vocabulary and techniques.  All of this is applied to simple and appropriate projects and incorporating art history. By the time they leave 5th grade, the students are familiar with certain artists like Picasso and Van Gogh.

In middle school, students build on what they have previously learned using skills such as problem solving and independent thinking.  They learn how art is connected through all cultures and subjects, and are inspired by artists like Dale Chihuly, Abbas Kiarostami and Roy Lichtenstein, just to name a few.

In high school, the students have more choice in the classes they enroll in.  In our studio art classes, we build on skills and introduce more advanced techniques such as blending, composition of forms in various mediums, digital design and color mixing. We also offer many 3 dimensional classes such as ceramics, sculpture and crafts where the students can use different mediums and possibly build confidence with something different.

Every student can succeed in the arts, once they find the area that best suits them.  As artists they should be able to relate to the world around them through the arts and as educators we expose them to various techniques, cultures and mediums which will help them to be successful in many areas of study.
