Runoff Election Information

  • As you may recall, the annual election for two seats on the Board of Education on May 21, 2024 ended in a victory for Nikki Barker and a tie between Halli Gatenio and Martin O’Reilly for the second available seat. The tie resulted in scheduling a runoff election for June 20, 2024. However, upon meeting with legal counsel to finalize details of this election, counsel recommended rescheduling the election to July 1, 2024 to achieve full notification compliance with New York State Election Laws. After Board discussion, this was approved through a resolution at a meeting on May 31, 2024.

Therefore, please note that this special runoff election will now take place on July 1, 2024 from 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. in the Rye Neck MS/HS Community Room.

The Board appreciates our community’s understanding as we manage the unprecedented circumstances dictated by the tie vote; we also appreciate the patience of the two candidates. Our goal is to ensure we are in full compliance with the law.
