The College Board releases information about the future of the SAT exam.

The College Board released information about the future of the SAT today.  Below is a summary of some key points.

 Digital Testing

  • The SAT will be fully digital for all students in the U.S. in 2024 (and internationally in 2023)
    • For the U.S., this means the class of 2025 (current 9th graders) will be the first class to experience this
    • *Internationally, the class of 2024 (current 10th graders) will test digitally
  • The PSAT will be administered digitally to all students starting in fall of 2023
  • The test can be taken on laptop or tablet devices (and personal devices are permitted)
  • It has been indicated that school-day testing windows will be several weeks long to provide flexibility

Format

  • The test will be adaptive with each section divided into two modules
    • The two sections will be Math and Reading & Writing
    • Students will answer a set of questions in the first module and then the questions they are given in the second module is dependent on how they performed in the first module
  • The length of the test will be shortened to 2 hours
  • The Math section will be done entirely with a calculator and word problems will be more concise
  • The Reading & Writing section will consist of shorter texts tied to just one question
  • Note that they have designed the test software so that if there are battery or internet connectivity issues, the test will be saved and the student can return to it without losing their work

Scores

  • Scores will be received within days
  • Still on the 400-1600 point-scale
