The following message was sent to Rye Neck Families by email on January 25, 2022.

Dear Rye Neck Families,

As you may have heard, a New York State Supreme Court Justice ruled Governor Hochul’s mask mandate unconstitutional yesterday.  The Governor has since appealed the decision.  Last night, the New York State Department of Education has issued this message:

“The State Education Department understands that Nassau County Supreme Court has ruled that the Department of Health exceeded its authority in enacting the mask regulation.

It is SED’s understanding that the Department of Health will appeal the Nassau County Supreme Court decision, which will result in an automatic stay that will unambiguously restore the mask rule until such time as an appellate court issues a further ruling.  Therefore, schools must continue to follow the mask rule.”

Rye Neck will continue to follow our masking rules and other mitigation strategies until further notice. We will keep our community updated on this changing situation.
