Three 7th Grade students were recognized by the Lions Club for their Peace Poster submissions.
Each year the Lions Club sponsors an international peace poster contest. This year’s theme was “Dare to Dream”. About fifty 7th grade art students from Rye Neck Middle School participated in the contest. The high school art teachers helped to narrow down the entries to 8 finalists who were: Runa Aoki, Valetin Belin, Olivia Capparelli, Eva Favre, Olivia Frabasile, Kayleigh Murphy, Avery O’Meara, and Avrie Treiber.
Members of the local Lions Club branch then chose the final winner and two runners-up who were honored at a recognition ceremony at the Larchmont Library on November 16th.
Congratulations to Avery O’Meara who was the final winner and will go on to the next level of judging. Congratulations also to Runa Aoki and Avrie Treiber who were the two runners-up. At the ceremony students spoke about their work and what they hoped to achieve for peace in the world. Students’ family members attended to support their artistic accomplishments and recognize the hard work from all of the students. Students from Rye Neck Middle School, the French American School, and Saints John and Paul were the three schools who participated in the contest this year.
All students worked very hard, for about a month, to creatively express the theme and everyone should be very proud of what they created during this time in art class. Students interpreted the theme very well and were able to visually express their visions of peace and dreams for a better future.
