High School Physical Education Information

  •        The High School Physical Education program is a multifaceted program designed to empower all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for a healthy, productive and fulfilling life. Utilizing an elective model, students may choose from a variety of activity offerings that include lifetime sport activities, team sports and fitness based units. Building upon previously learned skills and then incorporating new concepts, classes are designed to stimulate and guide the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of all students within a caring, supportive and inclusive environment that allows all students to be challenged and experience success, empowering students to make informed decisions to achieve and maintain a healthy life.
For students seeking a more advanced experience connected to athletics and physical education administration, the Physical Education program also offers an elective Sport Management class. This course is typically available to 11th and 12th grade students, and examines a diverse range of topics related to athletics and sport (marketing, law, business and finance, media relations and broadcasting, event planning, etc.). Utilizing a project-based model, students will be asked to approach the class as future professionals in the industry, tasked with creating innovative ideas and presenting practical solutions to current and future challenges in this dynamic and ever developing field of study.

High School Health Information

  •        The Rye Neck HS Health course provides students with the opportunity to further develop the knowledge and skills needed to maintain health and wellness throughout their lifetime. Building upon the basic concepts learned in the middle school program, our comprehensive health education class is designed to create opportunities and experiences that engage and challenge students to assess, explore, and question their health, while personalizing, adapting and evaluating their current and future health.
Health literate individuals have the ability to maintain and enhance personal health and fitness, create safe environments, and manage personal and community resources. This literacy is achieved by exploring areas of study that include, but are not limited to, nutrition and fitness, mental/emotional health and wellness, injury prevention and safety, ATOD (alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs) and sexual health.
Utilizing crucial central themes (acceptance of personal responsibility for lifelong health, respect for and promotion of the health of others, an understanding of the process of growth and development, and informed use of health-related information, products, and services), the goal of this course is to empower students to use the skills and knowledge gained to make informed decisions that will enhance the quality of their personal, family, and community life.
